Here are some notes that will give you an idea of the sort of material I am looking for:
Write and tell the world about:
Your club, charity, volunteer activity, creative activity,
Your craft, trade, service or business,
Your art (painter, musician, writer, performer, actor etc),
Local wins and achievements,
Opportunities (jobs, vacancies, new ventures),
Local heroes and people setting a good example,
Reports and upcoming events.
Poetry and Lyrics
Humour - including satire and cartoons
Health and wellness information - especially tips and advice that will help readers improve their own health naturally drug-free through nutrition and natural therapies.
Healthy recipes
Life hacks - tips on how readers can improve some aspect of their lives. For example, a simple acupressure technique for handling insomnia or (another example) tips for saving money on heating bills.
Sports and games (especially tips on how to improve), sports news, insights, clubs.
"Sustainable Community" - ideas and advice on living sustainably in the area and news/spotlighting sustainable campaigns and businesses.
Allotmenteering, especially environmentally friendly and organic.
A Commended and Recommended feature in which you can sing the praises of some other person, group, business or service you'd like the community to know about on account of their good works. Let's promote and validate good work and thereby help everybody win!
In fact pretty much anything that will be helpful, informative, inspiring or enlightening to our readers.
The best way to promote your skill or activity is to demonstrate competence and a good way to do that is to help the reader with useful tips and expert insights. And I very much want to feature these.
Your article can be any length up to about 600 words.
Don't worry if you don't feel confident about writing, I'll happily edit it for you - the main thing is the idea or message, you don't have to be William Shakespeare.
This is a rough guide only. If you think of something I've not thought of, submit it anyway - be as original and creative as you want.
Include if you can a few pics that go with the subject matter (preferably JPG or PNG format but we can usually be flexible).
Write your submission in an email. Be sure to include your website address if you have one, contact details and any social media you want the community to be aware of. Attach any pics and send the email to contact
POLICY
When submitting material for the Town Crier please bear in mind the following policies.
One
When deciding whether to publish a submission I use my own discretion. On a few occasions I may decide not to accept a submission. The reasons for rejecting a submission are various and not personal. On the odd occasion that I do reject a submission, I am under no obligation to explain or justify my decision and will not enter into explanations or justifications.
All submissions are made on that understanding and by making a submission you are confirming your agreement with this policy.
Two
My goal is to uphold community and family values. Therefore I will not feature or promote the following:
Drugs and pharmaceutical products of any kind
Psychiatry
Party politics
Denigrating the spiritual or religious beliefs of others
Anything encouraging or advocating anything illegal
Anything promoting or advocating sex, promiscuity, gender issues, sexual orientation of any kind whether heterosexual or homosexual.
People are of course entitled to communicate about such subjects elsewhere but I'm not interested in having such material in the Town Crier.
